What IS Dating?

Bobo was just talking to a friend that day... and
She: "Oh this guy that I was dating some time ago..."
Bobo: "Which guy?"
She: "You've seen him before... my ex!..."
Bobo: "Oh ya..."


And ANOTHER friend....
She: "Ya so getting married was like a whirlwind thing for me. At one time I was dating 5 guys and then seeing one more often and BAM I was married to him... all in one year."
Bobo: "........"


And yet another friend... She was out with a guy friend she liked. His friend, D, came up to them and went...
D: So.. are you guys dating?
Guy: Well we're on a date...
My friend was so happy she was over the moon! But when she found out that he meant that they were casual friends on a date she was crying buckets of tears.

So what's Dating to you?

If you're dating someone...

does it mean you're going on a date?
does it mean that you've been on a few dates recently? no commitment involved.
does it mean having an appointment with someone of the opposite sex?
does it mean you can have dates with other people too?
does it mean that you're exclusive to each other? or not?

When Bobo's Bestie dresses up and heads to work.. people tease her by asking her if she has a date that night.. and she answers that she has one... with Bobo!

So having a date is different from dating? Dating seems to have a ... long term twang to it.

Bobo's confused. She gave it some thought and she knows that you have to think about things in context. When used in different context the word "date" and "dating" can give very different impressions to people but even so... one's interpretation in a certain context may be very different from another person's.
